The Indian River Lagoon
The Indian River Lagoon is long stretch of waterway on Florida's east coast. It is home to a variety of charismatic fauna including dolphins, manatees, and sharks. The lagoon also plays a large role in the local tourism economy and even includes Port Canaveral, which sees cruise ships going to and from the Caribbean.

However, massive efforts are being made to protect this vital ecosystem. Over decades, the lagoon has become polluted with agricultural runoff, roadway pollutants, and sewage causing the bottom of the lagoon to be covered in muck and algae to bloom unchecked. Several organizations are working hard to bring balance back so that wildlife and people can enjoy the lagoon safely again.
